Hip replacement: treatment options
Careful assessment
Examination, X-rays and sometimes an MRI, to find the cause of the pain, which is not always the hip itself.
Total or hemi replacement
A total replacement resurfaces both sides of the joint. A hemi replacement, often used after a fracture, replaces only the ball.
Getting you moving
Early walking with support and a clear physiotherapy plan, with extra care for older patients.
Hip replacement: recovery
Most patients walk with support within days and return to daily activities over the following weeks. Older patients may need more time and help at home.
